With mountains guarding the back and seawater right in the front, Yantai abounds in gifts of natural resources and products. The fishery, agriculture and mineral products of Yantai play an important role in China. Its 11 counties and districts are situated by the Sea. In Yantai there are more than 900 kilometers of coastline and over 600,000 hectares of waters are within 15 meters of isobath. There are 200 kinds of sea products, 100 of which are worthy of being caught, especially prawns, sea cucumbers, abalones and scallops etc.
In 2002 the total quantity of the aquatic products was 1.625 million tons.
Yantai is a famous fruit-producing place in North China and is well known for its native products. Yantai apple, Laiyang pear, strawberry, big cherry, big peanut, longkou vermicelli and tussah silk are well known all over the world.
In 2002 in Yantai the fruit quantity was 1.909 million tons, while the vegetable quantity was 2.66 million tons, the vegetable export quantity ranks No.1 in Shandong province.
It has a large quantities of mineral deposits and 30 kinds of them can be tapped, such as gold, copper, zinc, lead molybdenum, magnesium, coal, talc, marble, silver, iron and graphite, etc. The mineral deposit of gold and talc is among the top 5 in China. The deposit of gold ranks the 1st in China and the marble ranks the 2nd. Oil and natural gas in the sea continental shelf is "abundant type"one.
