Yantai Agriculture

　　Yantai has a vast rural hinterland and the area of under cultivation exceeds 450,000 hectares.
The total agricultural machinery power is 5.949 million kilowatts. Farming level in Yantai has reached a high position, and five main industries including grain, fruit, vegetable, animal husbandry and aquatic products have been formed. Enterprises engaged in the processing of agricultural products are more than 1500.
Vegetable
Yantai has built many large-scale and top-grade vegetable planting bases and exportation bases. More than 30 special sorts such as burdocks, beans from Holland, cherry-like tomatoes, colorful peppers have been introduced and developed. In2002 the total plant area is 6.03 ten thousand hectares with annual output of 2.66 million tons, annual exportation volume of 0.25 million tons, ranking the first in Shandong province.

Fruit
Yantai, ?Home of Fruits in China? is famous for its fruits and is one of the most important exportation bases of fruits in North China. It is teeming with fruits such as apples, Laiyang pears, long-stem pears, grapes, hawthorns, giant cherries and chestnuts. accounts for 9% of the total output in our country and their exports accounts for 1/4 of the total exports in China. In 2002, the yields of fruits was decreased because of the heavy frost. As a result, the total output of fruits is 1.91 million tons including 1.26 million tons apples.

　　Cereals and Oil
　　　Wheat, corn, yarn bean and peanut are the main grain and oil crops in 　Yantai. Among them, special wheat and corn are of high quality and high 　efficiency, and Yantai peanut is famous both at home and abroad. The 　total planting area is 413 thousand hectares in2002.

Animal husbandry
Yantai has made lots of efforts to raise the quality of our marine products, improve efficiency of it and expand offshore fishing farm and increase deep-sea fishing. The annual output of marine products has reached 1.6 million tons.
Aquaculture
The total output of meat is 0.25 million tons, egg is 0.279 million tons and diary production is 16.36 ten thousand tons.
